Ability
Network has a variety of services available for
children and young adults with special needs and disabilities
in many locations throughout Missouri. Rural school
districts are often faced with challenge of locating
certified teachers and therapists to provide appropriate
programming and related services for their students
with special needs. As an approved Private Agency of
the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary
Education, local school districts are able to contract
with Ability Network for
services that are unavailable through the district's
program.
Since Ability
Network is not a licensed home-health agency,
services can only be provided if the child or young
adult has an IFSP or IEP and Ability
Network is named as the implementer. Ability
Network is unable to bill insurance or accept
private pay if there is no educational plan written
on the child with Ability Network
as implementer. The following includes services and
supports that may be available through Ability
Network in your geographical area.
Ability
Network has licensed professionals in speech,
occupational, and physical therapies located in many
rural areas throughout Missouri. Therapists are available
to provide direct therapy, consultation, or staff and
parent training.
Teachers certified in
Early Childhood Special Education are available in many
areas to provide services during the school year or
for the extended school year in the child's home, childcare
setting, Head Start, or other location. In addition,
Ability Network has been
able to provide some school districts with specialized
services for their ECSE students, such as services for
students with visual or hearing impairments, severe
developmental disabilities, etc.
Behavioral
Specialists will meet with the child, family members,
school professionals, etc. to assess situations and
environments in which there are concerns. Assessments
will consider the motivation and function of the behavior
being exhibited. Strategies and interventions will be
consistent with Positive Behavioral Support approaches,
which hold as a primary premise that behavior is a form
of communication. These services are provided on a limited
basis.
Ability
Network is available to provide many school districts,
child care centers, residential facilities, etc. with
staff training on topics such as positive behavior support,
sesory integration, transitioning from First Steps to
ECSE, working with students with severe learning difficulties,
working in natural environments, working with families,
avoiding staff burn out, hiring and retaining staff,
etc.
Consultation is available
on a limited basis with regards to writing Individual
Educational Programs for students, appropriate methodologies
and strategies, programming, environmental adaptations,
etc.
