Ability
Network works with agencies and their staff to
provide in-service training, extended workshops, or
ongoing mentoring and consulting. Due to numerous formats
and topics, timelines and consultation, outcomes can
be determined at the time of entering into a contract.
These services are provided on a limited basis.
Qualified behavior specialists
will meet with the individual, family members, support
staff, and others to assess situations and environments
in which there are concerns. Assessments include a functional
analysis which attempts to determine the purpose of
the
behavior and whether change is truly in their best interest.
Strategies and interventions will be consistent with
Positive Behavioral Support approaches, which hold as
a primary premise that behavior is a form of communication.
Individuals will be supported to learn effective, appropriate
means to communicate their wants, needs, or dislikes.
Interventions typically involve staff or family training,
communication training, skill training, ecological modifications,
etc.
